Pixabay was originally an experiment from Hebert, who wanted to create a photo-sharing website. He submitted the website to search engines and the site immediately received media coverage.
Shortly after, Hebert launched the website and started hiring people. He's now based in Hong Kong, however, and serves as CEO.

It looks like most of us don’t have enough knowledge about how websites work. But before we can tell that, we need to have a basic understanding of how websites work. Here’s a quick example that will help you understand how websites work in general.
A website has three key parts. First of all there is the web page where you are actually visiting. You are there to read the text and watch the video on this page.

It contains the surrounding data about the image that is generated in the background (data like, title, meta tags, etc.).

When you visit a website, you are actually making a request to the server on the internet, asking for data. When the server answers, it will send the requested data to your browser in a form that can be easily recognized. The responses will contain the answer to your question.

Is pixabay a legal website? Who can save it?
A new lawsuit from mega-social media site pixabay may be a step toward preserving a site that now seems destined to be deleted.

For over ten years, users have been uploading images to pixabay, where they can use their own artistry, creativity or even their Photoshop skills to turn those images into works of art. For a little extra cash, a lot of people have even been selling their images on sites like pixabay and photosite.com.
But what happens to those works of art when the person who created them is no longer alive?
On Wednesday, Florida-based artist Steve Wilhite filed a lawsuit against pixabay, accusing the site of willfully destroying and destroying his own works of art. "I don't want to see them gone," Wilhite told Reuters. "I have to."
You can't just take images off pixabay.com. If you look up an artist's name or work, you'll find a message on the site asking for your permission to use the image, and an option to buy the image for use elsewhere. "It's up to you," the message says, "who you give permission to use what you create."

Wilhite, however, says he never authorized his works to be used on the site, or even to be put up on the site at all. According to the lawsuit, pixabay was created by a programmer in 2005, but then apparently abandoned. It's now owned by a corporation that Wilhite has never heard of. According to a study by Google it takes five to ten minutes to get an ad up on top websites. In terms of revenue it’s hard to find an analytics company that doesn’t cover Pixabay.
People think that all it is is a stock photo website. But they are wrong, they make up to 30% of all the ad revenue in the stock photo industry, and are completely free for anyone to use. You can find the templates to use right on the site. Once you have created your image you can upload it to Pixabay and you are done. There are advertisements in place, and although a small amount of revenue is given to publishers Pixabay will convert your ad to a sale. This means that there is no cost to get an ad on the front page, you just have to make an image that people want to see.

There are two main reasons why many companies use Pixabay. They have a very simple, yet effective, customer support. They also offer a large selection of stock photos. There are many different categories and subcategories of photos, which makes it easier to find the image you want. The images come in all sizes, they can be between one and several thousand megabytes in size, and they can be exported in different file formats and resolutions.
